How to upgrade the FortiGate from a CLI
Upgrade Instructions
Sometimes the web GUI isn't accessible, it is easier to upgrade the FortiGate firewalls using the CLI using the serial cable.
First setup the serial and use a program like Putty to connect to the device's console port (Rollover cable required)
- Baud Rate (bps): 9600
- Data bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop bits:1
- Flow Control: None
Once you have access to the device, confirm you have access and login
1. Download the latest firmware release from the FortiGate website and put onto a USB stick at the top level directory and insert into the firewall's USB slot
2. Run the following command to upgrade the firmware, select y to continue the upgrade. (replaceĀ FGT_100F-v6-build5978-FORTINET.out with the name of your firmware image)
execute restore image usb FGT_100F-v6-build5978-FORTINET.out
3. The system will upgrade, you will see the following in the CLI

4. Remove the USB once the upgrade has been completed
